as a much-loved patchwork shop closes its door in Melbourne recently …
of course I buy some fabric online (and it’s beautiful and very often a good price) but there’s something special about seeing a fabric in daylight, feeling its texture, holding it up against a completed quilt top or a few blocks …
plus quilt shop ladies are surely the kindest souls around (and will cure all your life problems as well as your quilting ones!)
I’ve been tidying my fabric cupboard over the weekend (this process will be ongoing all week, I’m sure) and thinking about the fabrics I love most, often the checks and spots and very traditional tiny florals …
it’s taken me ?? years to realise that I should choose only those fabrics which please my eyes and make my heart happy
white, pinks, yellows and aquas and little flowers! and always, always liberty …
wishing you a happy and creative week ahead
love, Barbara x
ps a special thank you to Lynn of patchwork on central for helping me find the perfect backing for the new quilt on sunday …

Hello Barbara,
Thanks for stopping my by blog, it’s so nice to meet you! I have enjoyed sifting through your lovely fabrics and quilting projects, just beautiful! I know exactly what you mean about staying away from gloomy sludgy colours, I am going through a conscious change of my own right now in moving toward brighter happier colour selections. For me it is easier said than done though, old habits seem to die hard! :D

William Morris got it right: have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful … it’s not always easy to achieve but I do try to apply it even to craft supplies.
What a pity the shop has closed
